Bodie Competes in National Swimming Champs

Monique Lee —

Future Olympian represents Haeata at Canterbury Secondary School Championships at Jellie Park

Competing against the top swimmers around Canterbury, Bodie came 6th in 100m Breaststroke and placed 2nd in his 50m Breaststroke on Friday 5th April. "It was a very close race in the 50m so it was hard to tell who placed".

Bodie has previously competed in the New Zealand Division 2 swim meet held in Dunedin in March where he returned with a silver and bronze medal in breast stroke. "One day [I hope to] compete in the Olympics," Bodie says, who is also hoping to attend the national meet held in Auckland held later in the year.

Along with some other Haeata students, Bodie is also a part of a 'Dual Pathway' programme where students can study a subject offered at Ara. Bodie goes to Ara once a week to study outdoor education and hopes to continue with either this or personal training next year.

Bodie's kaiako, Danielle, Parintorn, Bridie and Paul, support him by creating a space to be able to learn and support his education by providing NCEA opportunities that link in with his passion  of swimming.  Bodie's cheerleader/ kaiako Paul supports him by insisting on 'James Cordon Style' karaoke on their drives to his competitions (we're not sure who enjoys that more though... Paul or Bodie?!)

Ka rawe, Bodie!
