Well done to Estella who won the U16/18 Girls' Scholastic Surf Champs

Congratulations to Estella Hungerford, who won the U16/18 Girls Scholastic Surf Champs on Sunday 19th May "With some powerful turns on some good left handers" (Aaron Lock, Surf Coach NZ). Estella was also named in the New Zealand Junior Surf team to compete at the ISA World Junior Champs later this year! Well done Estella!  Estella also placed 3rd in the u18 Girls and 1st in the Open Women's at the South Island Champs over Easter.

I have been surfing for 6 years, since I was 11. I am doing my Calculus, Physics and Chemistry through Te Kura (Correspondence school), and English, Health and PE with the help of Haeata teachers. Mark and Becca are my Puna Ako teachers. At Haeata, I can use my time however I want to, and cover a variety of internal assessments, all based on one topic of my choice. Most of my work is online so I can access it easily while I am away and I also take old fashioned books to study from as well.
My parents brought a Camper van to save traveling costs so I have a lot of free time to study when driving to the North Island. For next year, I am considering going to Uni to study science, environmental management or engineering, going on a gap year or starting a trade as an electrician, while continuing competitive surfing around NZ and maybe Australia.

Well done Estella, we are very proud of you and excited for your future!
