Cube Satellites and Kōrepo

Jono Broom —

A student in Kōrepo has been working on creating a model cube satellite.

A student in Kōrepo has been working on creating a model cube satellite. A cube satellite is a tiny satellite about the size of a loaf of bread that NASA has been launching into the earths atmosphere to orbit the earth and create maps.

So far he has done some research on cube satellites, and has started a net to create his own. The net is roughly about the size of a cube satellite.

This project shows that this student is working at level 5 for Shape and Geometry: Create accurate nets for simple polyhedra and connect three-dimensional solids with different two-dimensional representations.

It has also explored reading at Level 5 of the curriculum. He integrates sources of information and prior knowledge purposefully and confidently to make sense of increasingly varied and complex texts. He has explored many websites about cube sats and has used comprehension strategies like skimming and scanning to help him identify information quickly.
