Mathematics through a Make-up Box

Two students have been creating their own makeup box under the kaupapa of Culture in Kōrepo this term. They have measured the ideal size of their makeup box and constructed a prototype out of cardboard. They then found the materials they needed on the Mitre10 Website and went shopping!

They used their multiplication of decimals number knowledge to estimate the price that their materials would cost while at the shop, and have been busily measuring, sawing, sanding and glueing since they've been back at school.

This project incorporated maths up to level 5 of the New Zealand curriculum, and saw the girls achieving in an integrated away across english, technology and maths. They have developed their dispositional knowledge of themselves as contributors, resilient, collaborators, and designers.
