Ihutai Term 4 in review!

Adam Hird —

Ākonga success takes center stage in Term 4!

Term 4 is always a busy one in Ihutai, with our seniors finishing off assessments before they go on study leave, kaiako marking NCEA assessment to get ākonga across the line, Senior Prizegiving, senior study to support those who need only a handful of credits to pass, Year 9/10 sitting their standardised tests andfinishing learning programmes, making subject choices for 2025, Year 8 transition and finishing last week with our Year 9/10 Prizegiving.

With so much happening it can be hard to remember what we have accomplished this term. Our ākonga have again done us proud and lived our Haeata Uara (Values) and Mātāpono. I have seen senior students come in everyday during their study break to complete assessments and leave with big smiles on their faces when they have achieved their NCEA level, a true personification of resilience! I have watched our year 9 and 10 ākonga continue to turn up, put there best foot forward and gain some incredible results in their studies.

This term our Year 10 ākonga gained their first NCEA results from the Co-Requisite exams they sat at the end of Term 3.. A special mention to Steven Stringer and Adam Edwards who both accomplished the feat of achieving Literacy and Numeracy as a Year 10. A truly remarkable achievement and one they should be very proud of!

We are looking forward to 2025 and the opportunities our ākonga will continue to gain. We are excited to start two new qualifications in 2025. Firstly the New Zealand Foundational Certificate and also a Haeata owned qualification the Haeata Work Ready Qualification. Through starting these courses our aim is to ensure every learner finds their place at Haeata whilst we are ensuring we are providing every learner with all the skills and knowledge they need to be truly successful in the big wide world.

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer break and we look forward to welcoming you all back in 2025.

Ngā mihi,

Adam Hird
