Kaunuku Market Day
Thursday 14th of September was the day we had our Kaunuku Market, to raise funds for our giant mural project.
During Kaupapa Ako in Kaunuku, we have had a group fo children interested in Street Art. We have gone through a whole transdisciplinary process where we looked at famous street artists, identified the difference between graffiti, tagging and street art and even used scale to measure and enlarge objects. The final step of our process is to create our piece of Art. For this we decided we wanted to buy spray paint, and good high quality paint. We decided a Market would be a good way to fundraise for the money we needed to buy these items. The akongā were responsible for all their own planning, down to what they were going to sell, who was going to bring each item and who would run the stall. We had everything from baked goods, to toys, massages, and even a movie. It was amazing walking around seeing the groups handling money and practicing customer service skills like being polite and patient. It was also great to see the whole school come together.
Afterwards, I helped a small group count through the money! They did very well as we got up to quite a large amount!
