Kua tae te wā

Juanita Asi —

Ko te here o te aikiha e taea te wetewete. ko te here o te aroha e mau roa.

She is fondly known as Nanny Aroha, she has been known to call herself the Taniwha, but she is also known as our Whaea Aroha - and she lives up to this name. She has massive love for our moko, for this community, for te reo Māori and for Te Ao Māori.

Kōmanawa will not forget the legacy this lady has left. A staunch leader of Te Ao Māori she is always fighting to put our moko forwards, to make sure they shine and that they are proud in who they are. There were many tears last night from tamariki, their whānau and the kaimahi that has worked so closely with over the last year as we farewelled the wahine that has helped lead Kōmanawa to where it is today. She leaves us not only with a solid foundation in Kōmanawa, but also a wero to continue the massive work she has started with our moko.

Nā reira e te whaea e Aroha ahakoa kei tawhiti koe, kei wā tātou whākaaro tonu koe.
