Ihutai Service Day

Brydee Palmer —

On Friday 6th April we had our first Ihutai Service Day for 2018.

Service is one of our values at Haeata. Service includes learners being mindful of their unique role in making a difference and the concept that we can learn from our wider community and the wider community can learn from us.

Friday 6th of April was our first Ihutai Service Day for 2018, our ākonga went out into various places in the community and gave their time. We were involved in graffiti and beach clean up; volunteered in early childhood centres, and at Living Springs Camp; made hygiene packs and baking for Help for the Homeless and also did some gardening.

This was such an awesome opportunity for our students to connect with the wider community and also to learn that what they do can impact and help others. We have three more Ihutai Service Days organised for this year. We are looking forward to see how else we can serve, connect and help in our community.

We wish to thank the following people and places for giving us an opportunity to serve:

Help for the Homeless

Living Springs

Portsmouth Kidsfirst

Just Kids Community Preschool

Christchurch City Council Graffiti Team

Christchurch City Council Coastal Management
