Aoraki Camp

Jono Broom —

Kei te mihi, Kei te mihi,

At the beginning of this week, the Navigating The Sky inquiry group were lucky enough to go to camp at Aoraki / Mt Cook.

The purpose of the trip was to immerse our students in an engaging experience that speaks to their passions around science, astronomy, visual arts and geography.

Students and teachers visited the Tasman Glacier, braved chilly temperatures to photograph some of the night sky and hiked up to the Mueller Glacier - this was a huge challenge for many of our ākonga as they made their way across 3 swing bridges on an epic 3 hour trek.

Ākonga contributed to camp in various ways with Orlando-Rene Wright doing all catering for the camp and Charlize Berryman being our on-site photographer. Collaboration was key to this trip as our independent learners began to problem solve together.

Ākonga have returned home with some fantastic life-long memories. We have so many people to thank for their support of our camp - you know who you are so "Thank You!"

Finally, Adam and I would like to extend our warmest thanks to the students who truly showed what it means to be resilient and collaborative - Haeatatanga at its very best.
