Keeping it Proud

Sue McLachlan —

Haeata and Mairehau HS combine for successful evening.

A group of talented young musicians got together this term to rehearse for the Pasifica Beats and Smoke Free Rock Quest Competition. On Saturday, at the heats, they performed an original song and had the crowd enjoying their energy. "Proud Brown"wowed the judges winning the Pacifica Beats Award for Canterbury. They now have to write another song and make a video that they will submit to try and gain a place in the National Final in Auckland. In the Rock Quest competition, over 70 bands battled it out for just 12 spots in the Regional Finals and Proud Brown made it through. They will now compete at the Regional Final at The Foundry on June 23.

Huge thanks to Vai Punavai who has been helping work with these students over the last few weeks to make them sound awesome.
