Haeata Students Refurbish Bikes to Sell to the Community

Monique Lee —

One of the projects that has been happening in Tuakana is around fixing second hand bikes, which have been donated from the police. The project group would like to sell them at a reasonable price to the Haeata community.

Recently Rodney from Tuakana got in touch with the police to support his student's passions of bikes and BMX' ing. Cyprus (year 10), Dylan (year 10) and Brayden (year 8) are currently working on these 21 recently donated bikes. Their aim is to raise funds to purchase their own BMX.

Throughout this inquiry these three  year 8 - 10 students have been researching the skills and tools needed to fix these bikes, using their prior knowledge as well as resources such as Youtube and their kaiako. They say, "fixing and going to the track has been the best part".

They have already fixed four this term and sold one.

We would like to thank the police for their generous donations in helping Haeata students with their passion and learning.

For more information about their project or if you are interested in purchasing a bike please come in to reception and ask to be put in contact with Rodney or Alicia.
