Navigating Life

Karyn Gray —

In Kōrepo the current kaupapa (topic and/or concept) is Navigation. After two weeks of exploring a range of themes, students have selected one theme to explore in depth for the next four weeks.

In Kaupapa Ako: Navigating Life we are looking at the exploitation of human rights. This topic covers mainly the social studies, history and english curricula. The first two weeks we are delivering the learning by Snappers - daily tasters of a range of topics from both local and international human rights issues. We have started by looking at the Holocaust and slavery issues.

After each snapper there are some follow up activities. We are using google classroom to deliver this learning with readings, video, and picture analysis as well as provocative questions to develop critical thinking skills. Our students are engaged with their learning and are coming up with interesting ideas and observations which will hopefully lead them into developing exciting inquiries in the next stage of the process.
