Streetwise Feed the East from Haeata

Streetwise is a community service run by River Jayden supporting homeless people in Christchurch. You may have seen her around, she has been supporting in our Pounamu kaupapa 'Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata' as well as running Streetwise.

Streetwise run a programme called Feed the East where they offer a hot meal to our whānau every Sunday night. From Term 2 they will be working with us to offer feed the East out of the Haeata kitchen, with the hope of growing their kaupapa to include Te Reo and Waiata. In exchange Streetwise will give our kitchen a once over to support us all with looking after this shared community space.

River recently shared this about Haeata ākonga, Ella (pictured above):

This is my beautiful wee Ella! She’s a Street Wise champion, since day one Ella has always volunteered for us.
At 9 years old, she came to me and asked if she could join Street Wise. She’s even brought all her mates along as well, and we love it!
I’m inspired so much by Ella, she’s compassionate, caring and always wants to help others 🙂
I think it’s time for me to resign as chairperson and hand it over to wee Ella!
So proud of our young tamariki, leading the way!! Love you Ella xxx

They are also selling 'Kia Kaia' prints, sweaters and t-shirts to raise funds for victims involved in the mosque shootings. These can be purchased online here

An amazing organisation, tēnā rawa atu koe to River and all the team at Streetwise for everything you do for the community!
