This year we have been thrilled to see the positive impact of some of the programmes our youth worker has been running alongside Waipuna. We will be running some awesome programmes in 2025, including a surfing programme, an art programme and jiu jitsu classes at Oceanside Jiu Jitsu.
The surf programme is a partnership with Waipuna, we take ākonga to the beach (New Brighton or Sumner) where they are taught by surfing instructors from Waipuna. The purpose of this programme is to build ākonga hauora by experiencing challenges and achievement, being physically active in the natural world and fostering relationships with other ākonga.
The art programme is run out of Waipuna (on Woodham Road). This year ākonga have made masks, done paint pouring/throwing, made wreaths, dried flower bouquets, decorated cupcakes and much more. Akonga enjoy being in a new and different environment, engaging with different textiles and types of art, and appreciate spending time together and making new connections.
The jiu jitsu programme is run out of Oceanside Jiu Jitsu, teaching ākonga self defence, breathing techniques, and giving ākonga a place to be active, have fun, and enjoy learning new things.
Our Stand SWiS has been busy working with a number of family’s and running several groups this term around friendships, social skills, emotions and wellbeing. We have had a number of kids do stays up the Stand village over the last few months and they have adored their time doing lots of social/emotional learning, through activities such as swimming, horse riding, going to Rapaki Marae and the sensory room at Pioneer Pool. If you or your whanau would like to be supported by Stand Tu Maia and your child is aged between year 1 and 8, talk with Justine or a member of the Hauora team and we can talk about a referral hauora1@haeata.school.nz.
We would also like to welcome Lucy Clearwater to our team. Lucy has been a kaiawhina at Haeata working with ākonga across the school. She will now be based in our Hauora Team as a Youth Worker. Lucy will support year 9 to 13 ākonga with programmes and activities outside of the classroom.
We are stoked to have Lucy join the team.
