Kia ora whānau,

The 2022 school year is now done and dusted! I am sure you all heard the farewell haka to the Year 6 students just before school finished yesterday. This tradition is filled with both sadness from the parents and excitement, or trepidation, from the children. They are a fabulous cohort and we wish them well for the next step in their schooling.

It has been another year of challenges, and we look forward to a more settled year in 2023. Our tamariki have had a great year and will have some wonderful memories and we have been excited to have whānau at school events when we have been able - it’s been a blast!

We are so lucky at Hoon Hay Te Kura Kōaka to be surrounded by amazing staff, a super supportive School Board and PTA, and of course, fabulous children and whānau!

Thank you to everyone for being part of our community and supporting us this year.

Our school grounds are fabulous for learning to ride bikes and perfecting batting techniques, etc, so please feel free to use our school grounds in the holidays. The more families that use our grounds, the better. This helps with security as the more people that are out and about ensures those who may be up to no good, go elsewhere. The community patrol and our security company will be monitoring our grounds regularly throughout the day and night.

The builders will be busy renovating the Kāmata block and large trucks will be making deliveries through our driveway and main gate. If you are at the school, please reinforce the message to your children not to bike or scooter up the driveway and use the paths provided.

We wish everyone a very happy and safe Christmas, and we look forward to seeing most of you back at Hoon Hay Te Kura Kōaka next year, starting on Wednesday 01 February 2023! ❤

Happy Holidays

Lee
