South West Zone Basketball Success
Congratulations to our Hoon Hay Scorpion team who represented our school at the South West Zone indoor tournament on Tuesday 12th June at Wharenui. The Scorpions dominated their pool play, then played a hard fought semi final and final to come away with 2nd place, behind Somerfield School. Great team work was on display in all their games. The team now gets to represent the South West Zone at the Central competition on Monday 25th June. Team; Kyle S, Nikau J, Cruz M, Noah G, Daniel H, Korey H, Jamie P, Jamie R and coach Nicole Drewett. Go the Scorpions!
Primary Schools Trampoline Competition
There was more sporting success over the weekend for Hoon Hay School, with Luke S and Bailey V bouncing their way on to the podium. The boys competed in the Primary Schools trampoline event held at ICE trampoline sports in Rangiora. Luke S finished 1st in the B grade, and Bailey V finished 3rd in the A grade. Their combined scores placed Hoon Hay School 5th in the teams event! Way to go boys!
New Zealand Warriors visit Hoon Hay
Lucky Hoon Hay School had three of the NZ Warriors visit us on Friday 8th June. Our Kapa Haka welcomed; Leivaha Pulu, Keanu Laumatia-Paki and Tevin Arona. The players delivered a great interactive programme with really cool messages for our children focusing on hydration, sleep and nutrition. They also gave out lots of Warriors merchandise. Our thanks to the Warriors for taking the time to stop at Hoon Hay School, and thanks also to Annette Radford for scooping the visit for us.
Our Year 4 students, Paul F and Bronson H, members of the Halswell Hornets team, got to play in the curtain raiser at the Warriors vs Manley game on Saturday night. Very exciting. Check out the action photo below of Bronson.
With the Crusaders visiting our school the week before, and now the Warriors, you just never know who you will get to meet at Hoon Hay School.
Central Cross Country - 20th June
Good luck to Louis W, Cadell D, Lachlan R, Abbey S, Eadie P and Samantha Y. These children will be representing the South West Zone at the Central Cross Country at the Halswell Quarry next week. We hope the rain and the mud subside by Wednesday. Go Hoon Hay!!
