Kia ora, 

Hoon Hay School, Te Kura Kōaka, is a fabulous place! There is nothing like watching all the children outside having fun, playing with their mates and enjoying this superb weather we are having. It is a pleasure doing playground supervision. 

Thank you to our families for coming along to the first parent teacher interview. The teachers value the opportunity to hear from you about your child, the way they learn and how you think they can help your child with learning this year. We hope you left the interview with the confidence that your child is going to have a wonderful year of learning. Remember, our doors or emails are always open so keep in touch 😀

 😍 Thanks to the parents who have offered to help with the crossing duty on Maryhill Avenue - it sure helps out! You're amazing! We do have a few spaces left if you are able to help out - click here and fill in the form to help keep our children safe.

Please remember the road rules and observe the parking restrictions around our school - and  DO NOT park in the Medical Centre. They are our neighbours and we'd like to do the right thing by them.

We have a couple of exciting events coming up in the next few weeks that we wanted to let you know about! On Thursday 28th of February we are planning a whole school visit to the Hillmorton Marae. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to learn more about tikanga Maori and experience a pōwhiri within a learning environment. We would love  you to join us if you are free on this day and we will update you with more information closer to the time. 

Also, on Friday 8 March we are very excited to be launching our new school name - Hoon Hay School, Te Kura Kōaka. We will be hosting a celebratory assembly that morning followed by whānau time where your child will enjoy games, waiata, art and crafts with a cultural focus. No celebration would be complete without kai (food), so we are planning to have a shared lunch together. Watch this space!

Our PTA are holding their AGM, and general meeting next Tuesday 19th February from 7pm in the staffroom.  The PTA is a wonderful group of people who help the school raise funds for those little extras that help your child get the best out of school.  They are looking for some more people to have fun and help lighten the load.
