South West Zone Athletics

This year our zones were held for the first time at the new Ngā Puna Wai Athletic facility.  Therefore the children in our zone team got to compete on a proper synthetic Olympic style venue.  The day was warm and the children were excited and determined.

Our children all gave it their best, with lots making it to semi finals and finals and setting some PB’s (personal bests) as they did it. The children were great at encouraging each other and it is obvious they had put in the training as our school collected 20 ribbons;  6= 1st,  9= 2nd,  5= 3rd

We appeared to dominate the throwing and high jump events this year not leaving many ribbons for the other schools.  The children can be very proud of their results, as it is always very tough  competition at zones.

Results from the day:

Year 5

Harry D - 1st High Jump and 2nd 80m sprint

Cael D - 2nd Shot Put

Calaiss H- 1st Shot Put

Athletic Days - Koru, Harakeke, Minnows

Team Koru athletics sadly got rained off on Monday.  Koru athletics day will now be held on Monday morning, 18 November.

Harakeke and Mighty Minnows teams will participate in some modified athletic fun on Tuesday 19  during the morning.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons at Pioneer Pool have begun for our Legends team this week.  Children are getting great exercise walking to and from the pool daily and a 30 minute swimming lesson with an instructor.  Swimming is an important life long skill to learn.  As we approach hotter summer weather it is important that children know how to be safe around water and swim for enjoyment and survival.  All our classes will participate in swimming this term.  Koru, Harakeke and Minnows teams will begin their lessons on the 25 November.  Thank you to parents who are able to walk with our classes to the pool.  The help is appreciated.

Touch Rugby

Our 9 touch rugby teams are enjoying the Summer Nights down at Centennial Park.  Children are eager to play and are learning that team work builds success.  The passing and catching skills are improving each week.  Playing sport teaches us about the importance of always showing good sportsmanship to our opposition.  Be sure to pop down and catch all the action on a Thursday and show your support for our teams.
