Central Athletics
Congratulations to Zoe G, Marietta M, Louis W, Jamie P and Daniel H. These children had an amazing day at Nga Puna Wai competing at the Primary School Athletic Championships on the 5 December. There were 1800 competitors at the event and our Hoon Hay children did our school and the South West zone proud. Mrs Meaclem was impressed at the great attitude and encouragement given to each other. She enjoyed watching them perform to their best in your events. Well done to Daniel & Jamie who both placed 4th in their events in the Year 6 boys. Daniel threw 22.82m with the discus and Jamie jumped 4.01m in long jump - Awesome achievements.

We would like to shout out a BIG THANK YOU to the parents and teachers who have coached teams for us this season. Without coaches we cannot enter as many touch teams as we do down at Centennial Park, so thank you for volunteering your time so the children can play.
Healthy Schools Challenge.
BIG SHOUT OUT to Rooms 4, 8, 15, 16, 18, 20 who took part in the Healthy Schools Challenge this term. Children have been stepping out kms with pedometers attached to their wrists, then recording distances online and walking around the world. Thanks to their efforts for participating, we have won $1000 to spend on new sports gear…how exciting!! There were 25 schools selected throughout New Zealand for prizes and we were one of them. Well done children and teachers for taking up the challenge and winning Hoon Hay School some new sports equipment. Thanks to AIA New Zealand and Sovereign for getting behind the challenge and providing the pedometers and cash grants.
Coaches - 2019
We are always looking for coaches for all our sports teams. If you think you could offer some time to our school in 2019 it would be gratefully appreciated. A little knowledge of the sport is good, but more importantly your time and enthusiasm. The sports we enter include; Miniball, Netball, Basketball, Football, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Touch Rugby. Please email michelle.m@hoonhay.school.nz if you can help us.
How cool.......The Super Rugby Trophy made a visit to our school. See some classes pictured below with it. Thanks to the Crusaders for letting it come to Hoon Hay School for the day. We discovered it is a very large and very heavy trophy!
