Central Athletics

We had 15 children, pictured above, represent our school at the South West Zone at the Primary Schools Athletic Championships last week. The event was held at Nga Puna Wai and had over 1800 children competing.  Children came from schools in Christchurch, greater Canterbury, mid, west and south Canterbury and the West Coast - a big event!

Our children had qualified from their Zone placings and even though most were nervous, they took on the events with determination and speed.

While we did not achieve podiums this year, the children gained some good results, times and distances, and competed extremely well at this level of intense competition.  Ka pai children, giving it your best on the day.

Touch Rugby Season

Our touch rugby season has now finished, children played games for 8 weeks in the sunshine and learnt lots of new skills.

BIG shout out to all our wonderful coaches who took our teams this year: Dylan Coleman, Letitia Primmer, Matt Roxburgh, Mark Edminstin, Jamie-Lee Lewis, Nick Downs, Nathan Keene, Fiona Jones, Cain Donovan, Rachel Clarke, Ange Romano, Hamish Smith, Tessa Haig and Sunia Halaifonua. We thank you so much for giving your time and allowing children to be able to participate in sport.

See our teams photos below. If your child did not hand in their touch top to their coach, the clean sports top must be returned to Mrs Meaclem by Monday 11 December - thank you.

Water Skills for Life

All our 4 teams have now completed their week of swimming at Pioneer Pool learning water skills for life.

These skills are an important part of the school curriculum and give your child confidence and teach some survival techniques to use around water.  Swimming is such an important skill for life especially as we come into summer. View some photos below from our Mata Whanaunga and Kūkupa pool sessions.

Our Kūkupa and Koroī teams head to Halswell Pool next Tuesday for end of year fun and can put the skills learnt into practice in the pool.

If your child is in the Koroī team in 2024 (Year 5/6) they will take part in our School Swimming Sports early in term 1 and can go onto represent our school at Zones and Centrals. Our school swimming sports date is Thursday 29 February, pop this on your calendar now to come and watch.
