Kia kaha Te Reo Māori

Kia ora whānau,

Thank you to everyone who joined in the Māori Language Moment yesterday - we are proud of you all. Above is a clip of our Team Harakeke tamariki singing He Honore, a beautiful waiata.

The theme for this week is "Kia kaha Te Reo Māori", and everyone is working hard to revitalise the Māori language. This week is an opportunity for concentrated celebration, promotion and encouragement. Every minute of every hour of every day is a Māori language minute – we can choose to use te reo – every time we do, even just a ‘Kia ora!’ contributes to revitalisation.

Here are some phrases you may wish to use around home today.

Kei te pai ahau – I’m fine
Haere mai ki te kai – Come and eat
E noho – Sit down
Ka pai tō mahi – You’re doing well/great work
He aha te mate? – What’s wrong?
Kōrero mai anō – Please repeat that
Mō taku hē – I’m sorry
Karawhiua! – Give it a go! Give it heaps!
Aroha ahau ki a koe – I love you
