Central Cross Country - 27 June

After being postponed the Central Cross Country finally took place this week.  We were greeted by mud, mud, and some more mud at Halswell Quarry.  The slippery, mushy conditions made for a true cross country course.  Our Hoon Hay children embraced the challenge in front of them and all crossed the finish line smiling with mud caked legs.  It is a big experience for children to race and represent our zone at the Cross Country Centrals, and even harder in such tough conditions.  With over 100 competitors in each race it makes for a crazy congestion at the starting gun.  Our XC team; Louis W, Cadell D, Lachlan R, Eadie P, Eliza G and Samantha Y all had great runs, and can be very happy with their times recorded.  Lachlan R can claim the fastest Hoon Hay time of the day with 8:49m for 2km.  Well done eveyone for keeping up your fitness and training all term.

Central Basketball Tournament - 25 June

This took place on Monday at Pioneer Stadium. Our Hoon Hay Scorpions team played well, with some fast paced, tight action games. Tournament conditions are always intense, and are a good learning curve for players. Coach, Mrs Drewett was very pleased with how the team played. The team won 4 of their 6 pool games, which promoted them through to the playoffs, finishing 5th overall at the tournament. Thank you to the parents for helping with the sub and score benches, and the vocal support on the sidelines. Well done Hoon Hay Scorpions!

Primary Schools Gymnastics - 18 June

Abbey S and Heather B competed in the Primary Schools Rhythmic competition held at Olympia Gym Sports.   Abbey competed in the club and ribbon sections, while Heather competed with hoop and club.  Their routines were performed to perfection, as they did their best to impress the judges.  Well done girls, and congratulations to Abbey for collecting 3rd place with her club routine.

Winter Sport

It is called winter sport for a reason ... but the rain and soggy fields have been putting a stop to our Friday inter school competition.   Great to have the sunshine this week and see happy children and coaches heading off on the bus to sport @ Hagley.  There will be no Hagley sport next Friday 6 July.  Games begin again on Friday 27 July, after the holiday break.
