We are beginning to plan for 2023. Hoon Hay Te Kura Kōaka is a large school and we have many options for placement. We like to think that we are preparing our children for the future by ensuring that they experience change in a supportive and caring environment. In term 4 we start to arrange our staffing and classes for 2023. 

We want to make the best decisions that we can so that your child has a successful learning year. Your child will be surveyed to find out who their friends are and we endeavour to put children in classrooms where we know they have at least “one” good friend, however, we also know that friendship groups can change. Staff spend a large amount of time working on class placements. Over the past few years I have given parents time each year to contact the school if they have 'extraordinary' circumstances that they would like us to consider when we decide upon their child's class placement for the following year.

Can I please make it very clear that this is not a 'teacher selection' process or a chance to choose your child's friends. All of the factors we are aware of pertaining to your child's social, emotional and academic development are used when we meet and discuss placings. This is achieved over many meetings and a lot of time and effort is put into this. If you have any consideration that you believe to be 'extraordinary' I am happy for you to put this in writing and email it through to me principal@hoonhay.school.nz

All emails need to be received by Friday 21st October, 3 pm. This is the end of the first week back at school. Any emails received after that date will be disregarded, as we begin work on these placements during the holiday break. Please do not speak directly to the teacher, you need to email me for your views to be considered.
