School Cross Country

All the weeks of training came to fruition today.  Our full school cross country was held today at school with  each team  competing in their race;  Legends completing 3 laps, Koru 2 laps and our little Minnows & Harakeke teams finishing 1 lap of the course.  It was fantastic to see all our students taking part, giving it their best, supporting their house groups and each other with lots of encouragement.  Lovely to have lots of whānua in attendance, which always seems to help the legs to run quicker.  Congratulations to all the children who made the podium and to everyone who completed the course.  The top place getters from the Legend races will go on to compete at the South West Zone Cross Country in May.  Results and photos from the day will be available on the sports page of our website shortly.

Central Swimming Championships

Congratulations to Travis F, Zach N, Mia F, Kyle S, Alex M and Oshie L  who all competed at the Central swimming champs on the 5th April at the Selwyn Aquatic Centre.  Our children all set very competitive times in the pool, swimming some personal bests - well done,  Hoon Hay is very proud of you for making it to this level with your swimming.  Huge applause to Travis F taking 1st place in Yr5 boys 50m breaststroke. Primary Schools Duathlon

The sun shone on Monday 26th March for our athletes competing in the Primary Schools Duathlon at Ruapuna Speedway.  Our 13 Hoon Hay students were nervous and excited on the start lines,  with everyone giving 100% in their race.  Mr Hawes was very proud of the effort and determination shown by our Hoon Hay students, and the results obtained were very impressive - Way to go Hoon Hay!!  Full results can be found www.primarysportscanterbury.org.nz 

Legends Winter Sport Teams

Well done to all children who trialled for our sports teams this season.  Many thanks to the teachers and parents who have offered to coach teams for us this year.  Teams have now been selected and information will come home with your child next week.  Games begin in term 2.  Those children who are not in our Friday teams will also have lots of sport opportunities happening here at school on a Friday.

Huxter MTB Relay

Congratulations to Niamh E & Tessa W who competed in the Huxter Mountain bike relay event on Wednesday.  The girls lapped out 3 laps each in the 1.5hr time limit and finished in 6th place - Great riding girls!
