South West Zone Athletics

Athletic zones took place on Tuesday 6 November at Hillmorton High School on a very hot and sunny day.  Our team pictured above had a great day at zones.  All children gave it their best and some even achieved personal best results on the day.  Mrs  Drewett was very proud of how the team behaved and performed at zones.  Fantastic results from everyone with many of our children making it into finals.  Our Yr 5 girls; Lily P, Eadie P, Mia F and Zoe G claimed the 3rd place ribbon in the 4 x 50m relay.  The following children have now qualified for Centrals in their events and will be competing in this on the 5 December at the new Nga puna wai sports hub in Halswell.  Congratulations to Daniel H - 1st Discus,  Zoe G - 3rd 50m sprint, Louis W - 2nd 1000m,  Marietta M - 2nd long jump and Jamie P 1st long jump, 2nd 80m sprint and 3rd high jump.   Well done!

Touch Rugby

Our teams have now played 4 games of touch rugby this season, and are having a lot of fun at Centennial park on Thursday nights in the sunshine.  There are many schools entered this season which makes for a great overall competition.  Team skills are improving each week which is showing in results.  Big thank you to children who played 2 games this week, or played for another team to help cover our children who were attending the performance at the Hoon Hay Fiesta.  Great to see our children showing wonderful sportsmanship and helping each other out where needed.  Some of our teams are pictured below.

Swimming Lessons

These began this week at Pioneer pool with Legends children who started on Monday, they will be followed by teams Koru, Harakeke and Minnows beginning on the 26 November. Don't forget your towels, togs and goggles.  Having such easy access to beaches, lakes and rivers within New Zealand,   it is very important children learn water safety and develop great swimming skills for life.

If your child has an outstanding out of school sporting achievement, please let me know.   We love to hear the wonderful things Hoon Hay children are achieving.
