Central Basketball Tournament

Good luck to the children pictured above; Cohen D, Ashton K, Luke F, Hailie F, Braxton H, Connor P, Taitoa W, Jackson G and James C.

These children are representing our school and the South West Zone at the Central Basketball tournament next week, on Wednesday 9 August.

The tournament is being held at the Main Power Stadium in Rangiora, so it will be an early start for the team. We wish them the best of luck with games and hope they sink many hoops throughout the tournament.  Thank you to the parents for their help to transport the team on the day.

Te Ahi Ora Fire Show

We are very excited to be bringing Te Ahi Ora into our school.

The tutors from Te Ahi Ora will be working with our Kūkupa and Koroī classes during the day to teach them something completely different. (Please note that the day time sessions will be non-fire lessons). The tutors will perform a show for our Kāmata and Mata Whanaunga children during the school day.

On Tuesday afternoon (22 August) between 4.30pm-6.30pm, Te Ahi Ora will be hosting a Community Show and we encourage you to come along with your family and be amazed.  Our PTA will also be having a sausages sizzle, so come along, grab a sausage and be entertained.

Children in our Kūkupa and Koroī teams will get an opportunity to work with real fire during the evening community show.  Health and safety procedures will be strictly in place, and more information will come home directly with these children.

Te Ahi Ora has 5 goals:

  • Encourage students to participate in physically challenging and satisfying activities
  • Boost self-confidence, encourage experimentation and foster creativity
  • Provide opportunities for personal growth and development
  • Build a sense of community through shared celebration and performance
  • Counter the negative effects of excessive screen time and digital addiction

Fire Performing is an emerging community activity that is gaining popularity nationwide. This exhilarating practice stimulates the mind, energises the body, and promises an immense amount of enjoyment.
