Central Swimming
Congratulations to Travis F, Mia F and Zach N who represented our school and the South West Zone at the Central Swimming on Thursday 4 April. It was fantastic to watch these children swim their best and set some fast times in the pool. Our children were swimming against the best swimmers from all around the Canterbury area and the West Coast. These three can all be very pleased with their individual results. Travis F claimed silver with 2nd in his 50m breaststroke, backing up his win from 2018. Such strong swimming Travis - well done!
Miniball
Our Year 4 miniball season has now come to an end for the term. Our 3 school teams, Hotshots, Rockets and Lakers have had a good season and improved their technique and knowledge of the game along the way. We have had some mixed results, but more importantly, lots of fun each week. Great to see children turning up for training sessions, keen to learn new skills. Many thanks to the coaches; Jacqui Johnson, Julie Watson, Jess Holt and Michelle Meaclem for taking the teams for us.
Cross Country
Sadly due to the wet weather on Thursday and Friday our school Cross Country has been postponed until term 2, Thursday 2nd May. We hope for sunshine then.
Winter Sport Teams
Thank you to all the Legends children who have been trialling for our winter sports teams. Teams have now been selected, and training and games will begin in term 2. Congratulations to those children who were selected. We have 10 teams entered in our winter competition. Full information came home with your child this week - please remember to return permission slips to the school office. Legend children who are not in our teams this year, will still have lots of awesome sporting opportunities available to them back at school while our teams are at Hagley.
Gymnastics
We are looking for children who may be keen to compete in the Primary Schools Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastic competitions. Your child needs to be a registered gymnast with a club and be in Year 5 or Year 6. The competitions take place in June. Entries are required by 24 May. Please contact michelle.m@hoonhay.school.nz for more information and to enter your child.
Special thanks to Dean Richardson, for making us a new secure gate to protect our PE shed. We have been having some issues with people breaking into our shed over night and helping themselves to our school sports equipment....... we don't think they will be getting in anymore!
