Colour Your Day - Friday 13th March

Wear Bright and Happy Colours to School

Talofa lava,

Colour Your Day was birthed in 2019 as a way New Zealanders across the nation could respond to the March 15th tragedy in Christchurch. When so many of us felt helpless, wearing colour was a simple gesture to encourage individuals, community groups and business during a dark chapter for New Zealanders. It was also an opportunity to financially support the families of those affected. We had an overwhelming response and loved seeing people standing together.

Again in 2020, Colour Your Day will encourage everyone to brighten up their world on Friday 13th March (Black Friday) and support another great cause. This year donations from Colour Your Day will go straight to St John for equipment and training to continue their responses to emergencies. St John faithfully serve our communities as the first medical responders to incidents throughout New Zealand.

Colour Your Day is now led by Okirano Tilaia. During the 2019 Prime Minister's Pacific Youth Awards, Okirano received a leadership and inspiration commendation for the way he led the youth response after the tragedy. Last year, Okirano and many other young people led the positive and united response after the March 15th tragedy through a co-ordinated bake drive that was distributed to the victim’s families at the hospital, the police, and St John. Hoon Hay Te Kura Kōaka was delighted to have Okirano talk to our Year 6 Leavers at the end of last year.
