Kia ora whÄnau
It's been another busy week at Hoon Hay School, Te Kura KÅaka, with various groups of children out and about and, of course, lots happening back at school.
A small group of 12 children started the week at Ruapuna Racetrack competing in the Canterbury Duathlon track. A huge thank you to the parents who helped set up at Ruapuna, transported, organised and supervised the children.
On Tuesday, Team Harakeke visited Orana Park. The weather was perfect, the tutors were knowledgeable and the children got to see a large variety of animals. Thanks to all the parent helpers, as these sort of trips wouldn't be possible without you. See the Orana Park article in this newsletter.
Lynda Peterson organised and took a group of enthusiastic Legend children to Hillmorton High School, Te Kura Tuarua o Horomaka, to experience opera through the Opera in Schools programme. It was extremely professional, the children laughed lots and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our first camp meeting for parents was held this week, with our year-4 parents hearing about the fantastic programme at Woodend. The lucky year-4 children head off to Woodend on the first day of next term.
Many year-5 and year-6 children have been arriving at school by 8am this week, to trial for our competitive winter sports teams at Hagley Park on Fridays (hockey, football, rugby and netball) and at Pioneer (basketball) on Wednesdays. Good luck to all those trialling.
Last Friday our Te Kura KÅaka shared lunch was amazing. If you sent along a container with food and haven't seen your container since, there is a large collection in the office area. Pop in and collect yours.
Kia pai tÅ mutunga wiki (have a good weekend).
