Kūkupa classes recently spent a morning at our local awa (river) Waimokihi (Pioneer Stream) as part of Te Tuna Tāone /Urban Eel action learning programme. We spent time at the awa investigating and carrying out experiments to see if the awa is in a healthy enough state for Tuna to survive. Back at school we will look at the results and then come up with some plans of how we could pass on our new knowledge to others, as well as coming up with some solutions!
A big thank you to the amazing group of parents who come along to help.
Interesting fact…
Did you know that the longfin eel (tuna) is now classified by the Department of Conservation as “chronically threatened in gradual decline”, and is thus in the same category as the Great Spotted Kiwi, NZ Falcon and Kereru (wood pigeon).
