Survivor 2020 Safer Journeys Expo

Megan Te Amo —

We are proud supporters of the Safer Journeys Expo which is designed to educate young people about safety in and around vehicles and to raise road safety awareness.

About 1700 Year 11 students from across Otago are enrolled to attend the Survivor 2020 Safer Journeys expo, which will be held at the Edgar Centre from 15 - 17 March.

The expo includes a crash scenario and sessions on modified vehicles, speed and environment, alcohol and road safety, and the human cost of road crashes.

Funeral Directors John Finlayson and Donna Jenkins play a part in the crash scene which gives a small insight into the policies and procedures we follow after someone dies. It also gives the students an idea of all the choices that are left for the family to make when arranging a funeral service. John and Donna create a mock funeral service which includes a casket and service sheets.

Sophie Hall (Graphic Designer) from our Printing and Multimedia Department is in charge of designing and printing a 36 page workbook and the service sheets. This year we printed 1800 workbooks.

  •  Dunedin City Council Road Safety Advisor Deborah Palmer says, “This event will allow young people to make informed choices and ultimately save lives.”
