The Ministry of Health gave Approval to Operate the crematorium for Dunedin at Dukes Road and its surrounds on November 11, 2015 and the facility has been in daily operation since November 13, 2015.
Dunedin’s new crematorium at Dukes Road finished construction on schedule on October 30, 2015.
Mr John Finlayson, a qualified Hope and Sons' funeral director, is located full-time as the Attendant at the Dukes Road Crematorium. He is thrilled with way the landscaping and planting of over 50 kohwai, silver birch, magnolia, and flowering cherry trees have come together to enhance the Cremation Park.
The new facility is a world class operation and will quickly become Dunedin’s most utilised crematorium.
The new facility is state-of-the-art and operates at an environmentally responsible level not currently enjoyed in Otago.
The Cremation Park is intentionally set in a park-like setting with grassy fields, and shady trees, providing a peaceful, and unhurried atmosphere. Kowhai trees, Silver birch, flowering cherries, and magnolias surround the facility.
Dukes Road are keen to demystify the process and surroundings – The Dukes Road Crematorium is a homely setting and cremations are cleanly and efficiently performed to modern high standards in a safe and secure environment with respect, professionalism, care, and dignity.
Cremations can be completed 7 days a week throughout the day, and can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours to complete. The ashes are then processed and placed in the urn of the families choice or a award winning designer temporary wooden urn that is ideal for storage or opening for the scattering of ashes.
The facility is a major investment and just adds to the Hope's commitment to Otago.
Cremations are available to Hope and Sons and Dignity Funeral Services and all families in the Dunedin, Mosgiel and Otago region.
