Chaim graduated from Weltec on April 15, 2015 in Wellington.
New Zealand Diploma in Funeral Directing
Designed to provide participants with an in-depth knowledge of the procedures required to successfully arrange, deliver and direct a funeral, as well as the administrative tasks related to a funeral. Due to the sensitive nature of the industry, an emphasis is placed on behavioural science, including the psychological, social and cultural behaviour related to death and dying and the interpersonal skills required when dealing with the bereaved.
Delivered over a 34 week period including block courses and clinical experience modules. Each participant is required to nominate an approved, qualified supervisor, who will be appointed to guide and assist you throughout the clinical experience periods.
Nature of the programme
Students attend the modules at WelTec and between modules are required to undertake specific supervised learning experiences at their place of employment. Students must also present assignments on funerals which have been arranged and directed by the student. A final clinical module provides opportunity for reflective practice.
Each student must have a qualified supervisor during the clinical experience modules.
The supervisor must be an experienced, suitably qualified Funeral Director who is able to evaluate and assist the student during practical experiences.
Chaim Cleavin - funeral director
Chaim finds one of the most rewarding aspects of being a Funeral Director is helping facilitate families saying goodbye to their loved ones in a way that is meaningful to them.
Every funeral is unique and one that stands out in Chaim’s mind is a service that was a colourful fusion of Catholic ritual and a Steampunk theme at the Oamaru Basilica.
When not keeping busy at Hopes Chaim has a passion for designing and making jewellery, gardening, cooking and spending time with his young family.
His favourite place in Dunedin is the Andersons Bay Cemetery, one of the largest cemeteries in the South Island it is an area full of cultural history and significance. The coastal outlook, and rocky surrounds add to this being a very special place.
Hope and Sons congratulate Chaim on his achievement and look forward to a long and successful career.
