Hope and Sons - Mosgiel - new funeral home has been issued its consent to operate by the Dunedin City Council.
The beautifully restored kauri villa at 41 Gordon Road has been issued consent to be operated as a funeral home by Hope and Sons Funeral Directors.
The villa, known as Chestnut Villa, has a large chestnut tree in the front yard that will provide shade and shelter in the summer months. The newly developed driveway and landscaping incorporates the existing mature plantings and rhododendrons. Inside the villa is spacious and comfortable.
The Hopes are pleased to be able to share their home with you.
What matters to you matters to Hope and Sons - the front rooms, named on the original plans form the Music Room and Front Room, and are ideal places to meet and arrange the funeral and final farewell. There is also the ability to visit and spend time with your loved one in a homely and intimate surrounding.
The main lounge - Chestnut Room, and dining area - Garden Lounge, provide comfortable areas for gatherings of up to 30 people. We encourage you to personalise the gathering, using the space as you wish, have a cuppa and share some stories and memories with family and friends.
Hope and Sons will organise a funeral from any venue on the Taieri, at function and event centres, and local churches.
Local Crematorium - Dukes Road
Chestnut Villa works in really nicely with Hopes new crematorium in Dukes Road. Gather and celebrate at the villa and then come around to the crematorium for the final farewell, or leave it to the caring funeral team at Hope and Sons to attend to the cremation - all right here on the Taieri.
Chestnut Villa gives families a unique venue and the Dunedin City Council have acknowledged that the gatherings, viewings, and celebrations will have no more than a minor effect on the neighbours, the parking, and the traffic flows in the area.
Hopes talented team
Michael Hope said "We already look after many families on the Taieri and its surrounds, and with many of the local families utilising the fantastic retirement and aged care facilities in Mosgiel, it makes sense to be closer and available for families making arrangements and saying their final farewell".
This will give Mosgiel families access to Hopes talented funeral team including funeral directors, embalmers, caterers, and graphic designers.
- The variety of vintage, modern and classic hearses and cars will be available, as will our modern printing and multimedia designers.
- Keeping in touch with families for the year following the funeral is really important and the Bereavement Support Service will be around - with a lending library at the villa. Regular support groups and get-togethers are offered.
Open from Monday 12 September - call in for a tour or a cuppa - Lisa Breen, funeral director said "We'd love to show you around".
Hope and Sons are contemporary yet respectful of tradition, being a five generation funeral family caring for the Dunedin, Mosgiel, and Otago communities.
