College Update: Years 9-13

Horizon College —

Reflecting on a Successful Term for our College Ākonga and Exciting Plans for the Future

Coming to the end of term, we are so proud of our students in the college. We have had a full term, with many trips on offer and a real focus on learning and living our school values. Faith, hope and love underpins everything we do in the College and we are excited to see students aspiring to live these in an authentic way.

The College pastoral team has been hard at work putting together processes and systems to help provide better boundaries for our learners, as well as ensuring that they all feel safe and seen. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the work that our newly appointed Deans are doing in this space - Mrs Amy Wiliams and Mrs Maddie Long. They have both dedicated themselves this term to ensuring that our College and Middle Years is a space that everyone can thrive in and succeed to their full potential. Next term we are starting our Tribal reward system, actively rewarding our ākonga who are doing the right thing every day with points to go towards their Tribe.

We are also very excited by the learning opportunities that our students are given here at Horizon, and feel blessed that we are able to provide a great number of options and subjects. Our Year 9 and 10 Automotive class have been working on learning about vehicles, with participation in the Cars and Caffeine event in Snells Beach on Saturday mornings. Our Food Tech subjects are very much a source of excitement for our students, and the trips that many subjects have been able to offer as part of their curriculum are ensuring that we are participating in real life learning and experiences outside of the classroom, which enhances learning greatly. You will be able to see many of the trips that have taken place over the past term in this Newsletter. Thank you to the teachers for your hard mahi giving our students the best opportunity in this area.

Next term we are looking forward to the Easter Assembly, the Week of Worship, as well as other learning opportunities throughout the College. We wish everyone a relaxing break and look forward to seeing you back for another awesome term at Horizon.
