Horizon College: Years 9-13

Horizon College —

A Year of Leadership and Learning for Our College Students

We are really excited for the year ahead. There have been some positive changes that we feel that will enhance the learning experience for your child this year. We have welcomed some experienced and dedicated teachers on our team, expanded the range of subjects available for options and are focusing on providing a rich learning environment for all College Students (Year 9-13).

We understand the importance of communication and connection with our students and their whanau. This year we have moved to Year Level Hapori classes, with one dedicated teacher who is the first point of contact for pastoral care.

The Hapori teachers are as follows:

Year 9 - Mrs Maddie Long (maddie@horizon.school.nz)

Year 10 - Mr Adrien Alldridge (adrien@horizon.school.nz)

Year 11 - Mr Roushan Johnson (roushan@horizon.school.nz)

Year 12 and 13 - Mrs Sarah Welch (sarah@horizon.school.nz)

Students will be in their Hapori class for a ‘check in’ every morning as school starts. This time is really important to receive any notices for the day and ensure that everyone knows what is happening. Students can also chat to their Hapori teacher about their day and what challenges they may be facing. Hapori time will also have a dedicated one hour slot a week where students are able to set goals and have deeper conversations with their Hapori teachers around their academic, social and physical wellbeing at school.

If you have any questions about the day to day aspects of schooling for your child, please contact their Hapori teacher in the first instance, and they may be able to help or they will forward your contact to the relevant person.

We are in the process of organising the beginning of year routines and activities. Information about lockers, Year 13 privileges and other organisational matters will be coming out next week.

We can't wait for the year ahead with all the Students in the College this year.
