Middle Years Update: Years 7/8

Horizon College —

Hands-on Learning, Personal Growth, and Extra-curricular Opportunities Highlight the Term's Journey for the Middle Years Students

Middle school this week has been an exciting and engaging time for our students, filled with hands-on learning experiences. A highlight of the term was the science field trip to the seaside, where students had the opportunity to engage in experiential learning. Through careful observational drawings, they captured the details of various sea creatures, sharpening their scientific skills and artistic expression. Working in teams, they identified marine life, deepening their understanding of coastal ecosystems while fostering collaboration and critical thinking.

As we move closer to the end of term, our focus shifts towards Easter in Formation class, framed within our wider topic of love. Students are exploring the themes of compassion, kindness, and sacrifice, connecting these values to both their studies and personal growth. Through meaningful discussions and activities, they are reflecting on the significance of Easter and how love shapes our relationships and actions within the school community and beyond.

We have enjoyed sharing our final book reports to encourage others to read a broad range of books. Our home learning continues to focus on multiplication and typing practice for accuracy and speed. As we are moving towards high school we are refining our handwriting skills with this being included into our home learning.

Encourage your child to participate in clubs to broaden their school experiences. These include, Kapahaka, Craft club, Chess, Table tennis, student volunteer army and more.

Nga mihi,

The Middle Years Team
