Water Safety and Beach Education: Building Confidence and Skills for Our Tamariki
By combining our Water Safety Programme at Snells Beach with the Aotearoa Surf and Beach Education Day at Omaha Beach, we’re providing a great opportunity for your tamariki to build confidence and develop essential beach safety skills.
At Horizon, we are fortunate to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches in the area. However, like many schools in our region, we do not have access to a swimming pool. Instead, we embrace the opportunity to make the most of our local beaches for water-based activities and learning.
To ensure our tamariki gain vital water safety skills, we have introduced a Water Safety Programme in our Primary School, alongside Surf and Beach Education at Omaha Beach for our older primary and middle years tamariki.
This programme is a fantastic way for our tamariki to develop confidence and essential beach safety skills, especially as they can become exposed to the unpredictable nature of the ocean lvining in our coastal region. Through hands-on learning, we aim to give them the tools to stay safe while enjoying the beach environment.
This initiative is still in its early stages, and we are excited to see it grow and evolve over time. As resources allow and as needs arise, we will continue to develop and expand these programmes, ensuring our tamariki have the best opportunities to learn and thrive in these vital areas.
A huge thank you to our parent volunteers who make these programmes possible! Without the support of our school community, we wouldn’t be able to provide these valuable experiences for your tamariki.
Ngā mihi ki a koutou!
