Primary School Update: Celebrating Growth, Learning, and Adventure
Our Primary tamariki are growing in knowledge, creativity, and resilience through engaging activities, from maths and Te Reo Māori to surf trips and art projects.
Explorers Update
Building Knowledge and Confidence
In the Explorers classrooms, our minds have been expanding rapidly! We’ve been working hard to build our number knowledge and discover number bonds. One of the highlights has been collaborating on puzzles with friends and whānau each morning before school. Many tamariki are close to completing all the puzzles available in class, which has been very exciting!
Our young learners are putting in a fantastic effort to become confident readers and writers. A huge thank you to our whānau for taking the time to practice reading with your tamariki—it really does make a significant difference!
Te Reo Māori and Waiata
Over the past three weeks, we’ve been learning greetings, animal names, and colours in Te Reo Māori. We’ve also enjoyed singing three new waiata together. During our morning mat times, we’ve been reflecting on God’s never-ending, unwavering love for us, and we are striving to be ‘His hands and feet,’ making a positive difference in the world.
All About Me Mat Times
For the remainder of the term, we’ll be celebrating our Explorers during our All About Me mat times. Each student will have a special day to share about themselves and what makes them an amazing Horizon student. We’re excited for this opportunity to learn more about each other! Keep an eye out for a letter with your tamariki’s presentation date.
Maths Focus
In Maths, we’ll be focusing on addition, subtraction, and place value. We can’t wait to see our young problem solvers tackle these new challenges with enthusiasm!
Adventurers Update
Embracing Growth Mindset
In the Adventurers space, we’re embracing the Growth Mindset and the power of Yet! Our ākonga are learning that just because they can’t do something now doesn’t mean they won’t be able to in the future. They’re becoming resilient thinkers who persevere through challenges.
Literacy and Maths Focus
In Literacy, we’ve been focusing on writing recounts. In Maths, we’re strengthening our understanding of place value, addition, and subtraction.
The Art of Creating Self-Portraits
Our Art lessons have been especially exciting as we explored Picasso’s unique style and created incredible self-portraits!
Reflection on Easter
As we continue this exciting term, we look forward to learning more about Easter and reflecting on how much Jesus loves us.
Discoverers Update
Surfing Adventure at Omaha
On Friday, 28th February, over 65 students from Years 4-8 hit the surf at Omaha for a day of water safety lessons and surf skills with Aotearoa Surf. Each student had the opportunity to participate in three rotations: fun team games on the beach, free swims in the beautiful Omaha waves, and surf lessons with a team of experienced instructors.
We, as teachers, were very impressed with all our students. They were attentive, adventurous, and embraced the challenge as they gave surfing a go. Everyone took something great from the day, and we’re sure they all came home happy but exhausted after a fantastic experience!
Thank You to Parent Volunteers
A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who joined us on the trip. Your support made the day possible, and we deeply appreciate your mahi, time, and the fun you brought to the experience.
