On Track for Success: Mid-Term Updates and Highlights
He karere nā te Tumuaki. A Message from Our Principal, Daniel Bennett.
Kia ora parents and whānau,
It's hard to believe we are more than halfway through this term already. Recently, we have had Primary and Middle Years Surfing Trips, Primary Water Safety Days, and a number of College trips. It is great to see our ākonga getting out and experiencing learning beyond the classroom.
Some important news for our community is that Craig Henderson, who has served our School Board faithfully and diligently as the Presiding Member, has stepped down from this position. He will remain on the Board until the next round of elections in September, and Jonothan Townsend has accepted the position of Presiding Member. As a school, we are extremely grateful for the service, support, and love both of these men and our entire board have shown our community.
Great news from our 2024 E-Velocity Team! Not only did they win several awards and firsts at the Regional competition last year, but we have just heard they came first overall in the National Competition! A huge thank you to Mr Johnson and Steve Pound for leading these students so well.
The pastoral team, headed by Amy Williams and Maddlie Long, and supported strongly by our Senior Leadership Team (DP’s and Head of Middle Years) are working together productively to support the students who need it. As leaders, we are proud of how teaching staff are delivering curriculum and maintaining consistency and stability across the school.
We are working to gradually and sustainably improve a number of areas across the school. One of these is looking at our transport systems. As you will be aware, due to the fact that we share buses with other schools in the area, our afternoon buses currently leave before the end of our school day. Our Associate Principal, Simeon Hawkins, has been working hard on some changes to this that will include the buses dropping and collecting students from the top car park and departing at 3pm to allow students a full day of learning. More details will follow, but these changes are expected to come into effect from the start of Term 2.
We thank you for your continued support of our Kura and it was a pleasure to meet some more of you at the Meet the Teacher Evening on the 26th.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Daniel Bennett
