Middle Years Update: Engaging Learning and Growth Opportunities
Our Middle Years students are engaged in enriching learning, from exploring whakapapa and migration to taking on leadership roles, all while embracing a growth mindset and community involvement.
It was wonderful to meet many of you at the Meet the Teacher evening. Our team is excited to work alongside whānau to provide our students with rich and engaging learning experiences.
A huge ‘thank you’ to Mrs. Isaacs, a Middle Years mum, for being our guest speaker. The Year 8 Social Science class is currently learning about whakapapa and migration stories to Aotearoa. Mrs. Isaacs shared valuable insights into her family’s journey from South Africa to New Zealand, including the process and challenges of such a transition.
The Year 7/8's are already in full swing, taking on lead roles in the PE Shed, the Library, and our Environmental Club. Please encourage your child to get involved in any of the lunchtime clubs. These are great opportunities to make new friends and try something new. Our focus on a growth mindset makes these activities an excellent way for students to practice this approach.
We’ve now implemented differentiated, fluid math groups to cater to specific learning levels. Students are enjoying a variety of math activities as we continue to offer stimulating and engaging lessons. If you’d like to support your child’s learning at home, each student has access to Education Perfect for math, which can be a helpful tool for additional practice—a little and often is the key.
PAT testing has been completed in the Middle Years. This provided us with valuable insights into our students’ knowledge and abilities, helping us tailor lessons to ensure we cover the full NZ curriculum and support student achievement.
As autumn approaches and the mornings get cooler, please remember to label jumpers and jackets, as students often take them off by morning tea, leading to a growing lost property pile.
