What's on the Horizon for Horizon School

Horizon School —

A warm welcome to 2025 from Daniel Bennett

Welcome back to 2025. On behalf of the school leadership team I would like to thank you for your ongoing commitment to Horizon this year.

We have started the year well with some teacher-only days, during which we set positive and high expectations for the year and spent valuable time planning collaboratively.

This year, our key focus will be on raising academic achievement through maintaining high expectations for students both academically and  behaviourally, by creating a stable consistent learning environment, and empowering staff to develop in new areas. In line with this, compared to last year we have changed the timetable slightly for Middle Years (7-8) and College, allowing more time for academic focus.

We have had some good progress on the property over the break, including new carpet for the auditorium, new stairs leading to the auditorium refreshing of paint throughout some areas of the school and fencing installed in the lower primary area.

It has been exciting welcoming our new staff who are fitting in very well to our school, including the following:

Simeon Hawkins (Associate Principal)
- Simeon comes with a wealth of experience in Christian education and mentoring young people and will take a lead on further advancing our ability to teach from a Biblical perspective.

Caroline Smith (Executive Officer)

Nicole Bennett (Head of Middle Years)

Amy Williams (College Teacher and Head Dean)

Lana Purdon (Mathematics and ASL Kahui Ako Lead)

Marla Ferguson (Middle Years Teacher)

Robin Curion (Relief Teacher)

Simonè Nieuwenhuys (Year 1 Teacher)

Emma Alldridge (Middle Years Teacher)

We Hope, Trust and Pray that this first term will be equally rewarding and challenging for our students.

Nga mihi nui,

Daniel Bennett

Drop off and pick up Zones

A quick reminder that parents are to pick up and drop off students in the top carpark (adjacent to the Baptist Church). We have limited space for turning on the school grounds so for practical and health and safety it is unsuitable for parent use. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

School Donations

A reminder about the school donations as your payment of these will affect the extent to which we can run additional activities that parents are interested in seeing continue at Horizon.
