He karere nā te Tumuaki

A message from Daniel Bennett

Kia ora koutou,

We trust this communication finds you well. Although it's still early days this year, our staff are working hard to ensure we deliver quality programmes to our tamariki here at Horizon. Being a Christian educator is truly one of the greatest privileges, as we have the opportunity to combine education and faith in a way that can have eternal effects on our ākonga and their lives.

STEVE MILLEN VISIT

This week, the Middle Years students were privileged to have Steve Millen, a retired race car driver who lives locally, visit them. Steve has won many prestigious international events, including Le Mans and Daytona. He inspired the students by sharing his life story and the disciplines he applied to achieve success internationally.

WATER SAFETY PROGRAMME

We are thrilled to see our Water Safety Programme for the Years 0-6 tamariki successfully underway at Horizon School for the first time. After a great first session, we look forward to more as the weeks progress. See here for an update on this first session.

SPORTS UNIFORM

Communication at the end of last year outlined that sports uniforms would be compulsory starting 2025. Since then, we have received feedback indicating that this requirement is most relevant to Middle Years (Years 7-8) and College (Years 9-13). Therefore, please ensure that all students 7-13 have sports uniforms moving forward and wear them for all PE classes. In addition, please remember hats are compulsory for all students during Term 1.

MEET THE TEACHER EVENING

A reminder about the Meet the Teacher Evening coming up on Wednesday 26 February. See here for information on this event.

STUDENT FORMS

If you have not yet filled out and returned the EOTC and Cyber Safety agreement, please do so as soon as possible.

PARKING & DROP OFF/PICK UP

Please ensure all drop-offs and pick-ups occur in the top gravel car park next to the church. Avoid using the Pastor's car park on the left-hand side of the building. Is is important that students are not dropped to school before 8:30am and are promptly collected at 2:55pm. See here for detailed information on this.

TEACHER ONLY DAY

Due to a training day related to changes in the New Zealand Curriculum that need to be implemented from this year onwards, we will be holding a Teacher Only Day on Friday  21st of March

BAG OF TRICKS PARENTING COURSE

We can all use a little boost or advice with our parenting at times. Homebuilders, a respected community organisation, is offering a free five week targeted course on parenting. See more information here.

We are blessed to be able to serve you as we teach and guide your tamariki.

Ngā mihi nui,

Daniel Bennett
