Middle Years Update: Years 7-8
We have had a great time getting to know our ākonga and creating an intentional and dynamic learning space. So far this term we have had overwhelming numbers of keen students volunteering for our key Intermediate responsibilities: library monitors, tribe leader support, PE shed monitors and Enviro warriors.
Intermediate is a time of growing in self management and these responsibilities will suit them well. This years group of 7/8 students are building friendships with our new students, and have had group games of handball to include everyone.
The middle school staff team are dedicated to bringing up the academic achievements through engagement and structured lessons. Therefore, the students are adapting to our new class norms and expectations for behaviour. They are predominantly doing well and we are already seeing the positive results of understanding the classroom space to be a 'learning' space.
Tech has been a top favourite subject for the Year 7's so far with rocket making competitions and the physics that is required with this. Thank you to our excellent technology teacher who keeps students challenged and inquisitive!
Thank you also to Steve Millan, our NZ race car World Champion, who came in to speak to the students about his life journey, in order to encourage them to have resilience, determination and goals. This was an excellent encouragement for the start of the year.
We are getting excited about our Water Safety and Surf Trip coming in week 4! Please refer to your paper copy of the Surf Info for details.
Reminder that all the students are required to wear school hats and black shoes as part of our school uniform.
Ngā mihi,
Nicole Bennett
