Kia Ora from Daniel Bennett: New Principal's Message
Dear Horizon Whānau,
It is a real honour to have this opportunity to serve this community. I have felt thoroughly welcomed by staff, students, and parents alike. The mihi whakatau was very special and made even more so by the fact that my family was invited to attend.
While I’ve only been in the role a very short time now, I am struck by the unique and cohesive nature of this community, including the unity amongst staff and the openness of students. It was a privilege last week to see the primary students perform at the local Taurima Kapa Haka Festival. A huge congratulations to the students in our E-Velocity team for their outstanding results in both regional and national competitions, and to Roushan and Steve for leading them so capably.
I would like to thank Craig Henderson for all the time and effort he has put into this leadership transition. Likewise, thank you to Simon Bartlett, who served admirably as acting principal prior to my arrival.
Please note that sports uniforms will be compulsory from 2025, so if you have not yet purchased one, we would recommend doing so shortly. As per previous communications, Year 13 students were in mufti this year on a trial basis which is due to be reviewed. Current feedback from staff and students is that having a uniform for Year 13 students would be preferred. Further consultation with parents and students will take place with more details to follow.
Finally, I would like to extend an invitation to an informal meet-and-greet evening on Thursday, 5 December. This event will provide an opportunity for you to ask questions, share suggestions for the upcoming year, and get to know me better. To ensure that the evening is tailored to your needs, I kindly ask that you complete the attached form by 28 November.
I hope and pray you have a wonderful week and enjoy the warmer days ahead.
Ngā mihi nui,
Daniel Bennett
