Wellbeing: Creative Clay and Mindful Moments in the Classroom

A whirlwind of creativity and calm, with two exciting initiatives that have engaged your tamariki in meaningful ways.

Clay Creations: Pinch Pots to Birds with Year 7-8 Students

Our Year 7 and 8 students have been exploring their creative side with Michelle Diprose, working with clay. They started with pinch pots and have progressed to creating bird sculptures.

It's amazing to see how quickly these first-time clay artists have grasped the techniques. From shaping and molding the clay to adding intricate details, each student has brought their own unique style to their work. We can’t wait to share the finished products with you!

Pause, Breathe, Smile: Mindfulness with Year 3 and 4

This term, Michelle also had the pleasure of working with our Year 3 and 4 students through Pause, Breathe, Smile, a mindfulness program sponsored by Southern Cross. The program is designed to help students build awareness of the present moment, practice emotional regulation, and understand how to manage their feelings—particularly how to shift from the “red zone” (when emotions are overwhelming) to the “green zone” (a calmer, more balanced state).

Through a variety of activities, we’ve been exploring the power of deep breathing and other strategies to stay focused and grounded.

I encourage you to check in with your child about what they've been learning and practicing during these sessions. Mindfulness is a wonderful tool to help students cope with the challenges of daily life and develop skills that will benefit them for years to come.
