Poet extraordinaire Apirana Taylor inspires
Students were inspired during this week's visit from the extraordinary Apirana Taylor
Poet and speaker Apirana Taylor entertained and inspired a packed auditorium for an hour with his mix of poetry, story telling, and music. His larger than life presence captured imaginations, and kept the audience of students young and old spellbound.
Api followed this with an hour long workshop run for some of the students who are participating in our Gifted and Talented programme as part of their preparation for Scholarship English in a few years time.
Many of the students were Year 9 and 10, and during the course of the workshop produced some truly outstanding poetry. Here are links to some of their blog posts that include their poetry writing.
Their poetry writing showed inspiration and maturity beyond their years. It is an outstanding illustration of what creative excellence looks like, with the students modelling our school values of Commitment, Achievement, Resilience, and Respect, in their work. This is also a quite literal illustration of what our pedagogy 'Learn Create Share' can look like in action. #creativeexcellence
