2019 School Leaders

Andrea Wall —

As a Prefect team, we want to be able to make a positive impact on our school and build a community spirit that we can be proud of. We plan to run fun events and activities all year long, aiming to get as many students engaged as we can. We also wish to create a legacy that we can all be proud of by creating positive experiences for everyone in the school and the wider Hornby community.

Lachlan:
Hello everyone, my name is Lachlan and I am honoured to be a Head Student and a part of the Prefect team at Hornby for 2019.

Throughout the year I want to be a positive role model for all the students at Hornby High School. I look forward to interacting with as many students as possible and sharing what I have learnt from my years at school. I would like to focus on doing this with the younger students especially to help them feel more comfortable in the school community. In doing this, I hope that they can gain confidence in themselves and can also maintain the positive and prideful spirit that we have here at Hornby High School, and I look forward to working with the Prefect team to accomplish this goal.

Shardey:
Kia ora koutou katoa, my name is Shardey! I feel beyond privileged to be a Prefect and one of the Head Students at Hornby High School for 2019.

This year my goal as a leader within our community is to have a positive influence on the students, and share some of my school experiences with them that they can learn from. Something I would also like to see more of is our students believing in their potential, and being proud of who they are as individuals and as part of the wider Hornby whānau. So hopefully with the support from me and the other prefects, we can inspire them to be the best versions of themselves just as previous prefects inspired us.

Iris:
Hello, my name is Iris and I am Deputy Head Girl at Hornby High for 2019.

As a leader within the school, my goal is to get more involved with other, specifically younger, students around the school. I want to achieve highly academically to inspire younger students to put their best effort into their school work.

A personal goal of mine is to make the most of my last year at high school, taking up every opportunity that comes my way. I want to make the most of my time as a Youth MP and I hope to learn more about our community.

I have a passion for science, and I hope to have a career involving science in the future. Outside of school, softball is a massive part of my life and I thank the sport for the person it has helped me to become.

Tena koutou katoa, Ko Anna Pohatu ahau and I have the great pleasure of calling myself a Deputy Head student for Te Huruhuru Ao o Horomaka this year!

As a senior leader of Hornby, I aim to help countless students find their inner seed, whether it be passion, or themselves. From my previous time at Hornby, we see many students battle with self-confidence and faith. Therefore, I hope our Prefect team can help everyone to feel welcome and comfortable as a student.
Through Hornby, I found my passion for my Māori cultural side, being my language and pride. I wish to start a Hornby community Māori club, to encourage other Māori rangatahi (students) on their journey to learning the language and history behind Māori culture.
I hope Hornby can nurture your seed and help it bloom, like it did mine.

Rania:
My goal this year is to be more involved with the school. I intend to do this by running more activities with the prefect team, picking up rubbish around the school, interacting more with the younger students and helping them feel more comfortable in our environment. I hope the students at Hornby High School look up to us as positive role models and we inspire them to be their best self.

Maia:
Hello everyone, my name is Maia.

I am very pleased to be a part of the 2019 Hornby High School prefect team.

Firstly, I would like to welcome all of the new students here at Hornby with open arms. As our school continues to expand, I hope to interact with as many students as I can. I aim to be a leader whom students feel they can speak to comfortably, as well as setting up enjoyable activities throughout the year alongside the Prefect team.

We have quite a culturally diverse school, and throughout my years at Hornby High School I cannot help but be extremely interested in all of the beautiful cultures we have present. I am looking forward to seeing what the year has in store for us all.

Lavisha:
Hornby High School is a very culturally diverse school. One of my goals this year is to be more involved with the cultural side of Hornby High School by providing support for our different cultures at Hornby High to represent themselves through language weeks and/or any cultural festivals we may hold at Hornby High School and hopefully in the community as well.

I have a passion for performing music and also performing anything cultural related.

Arturo:
As a leader, my goal for this year is to contribute the best of what I have learnt from my past years at Hornby High School and also of what I have learnt outside of the school, to help the young students achieve the best grades they possibly can, and to be a good representative not only here at Hornby High School but also the wider community. I want to improve the school wherever possible and to create a healthier workplace for everyone at the school, whether this is from adding on to existing ideas or anything I am asked by you! I would like to get involved with the different cultures at Hornby High School and support these young students that come from other countries. I look forward to working with my prefect team to make it all happen.

I have a passion for building houses, design, and scale drawing.

Zyromme:
Hello everyone, my name is Zyromme. I am honoured to be one of the prefects of Hornby High School this year. As a leader, my goal this year is to be a positive role model other students can look up to and to be able to interact with them. I also plan to contribute to as many activities I can to learn skills that would benefit me in the future. I hope to improve myself and the school throughout my senior year. I plan to help as many students as I can with their academics and sports so if you have any problems or questions, feel free to come up to me anytime. I’m very passionate about sports. I also like reading manga. I look forward to conversing with you all more. Good luck to everyone with their studies.

Christina:

Being a leader here at Hornby High School, I aim to help all students, in particular, junior students to be comfortable being on the school grounds, and being around seniors. I want to encourage and inspire young pacific students to become leaders, as there are very few pacific leaders here. My goal is to be a good role model for them and to help inspire them to be strong leaders of Hornby High School. I am passionate about sport.
