Level 1 Food Tech news

Kelly McNicholl —

As part of the Level 1 Foods course this year, students need to develop a good understanding of Hauora and the four dimensions of Taha Tinana (Physical), Taha Hinengaro (Mental and Emotional), Taha Wairua (Spiritual), and Taha Whanau (Family).

They then need to reflect on how these dimensions can be affected by different activities they participate in.  The key model of health we are examining is Te Whare Tapa Wha. Over the past three lessons, students have been required to make the dough, accurately cut out the pieces of the whare, cook, and then build their whare. Students will be asked to reflect on how their involvement influenced their Hauora. As those who have experienced the joy of building gingerbread houses before know, things do not always go to plan, but they can always be covered in icing.
