Sports Report

Katrina Keenan —

Term One has been very busy with Hornby High School teams competing in after school Touch, Indoor Football and Volleyball competitions.

The RAMs basketball coaches have been working with our Year 7/8 students as have the Canterbury Netball Centre coaches and we feel very fortunate to have coaches of this level providing support to our programmes.

Preparation for the CRL League Nines has begun and trainings for the Senior Boys Team (Year 11-13) are held at school on Wednesday afternoons at 4:45pm.

Trials are underway for our Junior Boys (Year 9-11) basketball teams. There is one final trial for this group on Monday 18 March from 3 - 5pm in the school gym.
Trials for the Year 7/8 boys and girls will then be held on the following dates, Tuesday 19 March 3:30pm - 4:45pm, school gym and Tuesday 26 March 3:30pm - 4:45pm, school gym.
Basketball trials and sessions for our senior Boys and Girls teams are underway and we are excited to enter our Senior Girls Basketball team into the Division 1 girls competition, the Whelan Trophy after some consistent performances the past few seasons.

Our Senior Boys Volleyball team will compete in the Satellite Championship at the end of the month. The team finished 2nd at last year's event so are looking forward to this opportunity.

Lunchtimes are busy with Indoor Football, Indoor Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball and Softball on offer. The prefects have also been busy organising some fun sport based activities.

We have a number of initiatives planned in the coming months, including Canterbury Basketballs Midnight Basketball programme. Students are encouraged to check the school notices for information.
